 Saturday, February 18, 2012   10:15 AM

Martha Koeneman

 The Solo Pianist

"The Pennsylvania Ballet"

The Pennsylvania Ballet was founded by Barbara Weisberger in 1963 under the guidance of George Balanchine, the great choreographer and founder of the New York City Ballet.  He gave his permission for them to perform several of his finest works and provided musical scores and costumes for them.

Martha Koeneman has been the Solo Pianist for Pennsylvania Ballet since 1976.  She began her training at the age of four as a student at the St. Louis Institute of Music.  She was eight when the family moved to Philadelphia and, became a student of Eleanor Sokoloff and Susan Starr both of the Curtis Institute of Music.  The summer after she graduated from Temple University she bagan to work for Pennsylvania Ballet.  Her interest in ballet was kindled through a series of performances she viewed while in high school.  Her favorite composers are Stravinski and Bach and her favorite dancer is Melissa Podcasy.

Please join us at the Easttown Library, Saturday, February 18, 2012 at 10:15 a.m. to hear Martha Koeneman talk about the Pennsylvania Ballet and her personal experiences.  The Library is located at 720 First Avenue in Berwyn.
